1894 Santa with Lorgnettes – Memories of Santa

America – Circa 1894

This very well dressed Santa is wearing his stylish “Lorgnettes”, a French word for spectacles with a long handle like an opera glass, while reading his list.

This Santa was inspired by a drawing which is said to have been created by Thomas Nast although it did not bear his signature. It was pictured in Harpers Weekly in 1894.
